Spin Your Words

I recently (July) worked along side singer Sami Khan, on his music video for his hot new single, Spin Your Words, directed by Simon Marthinsen. The song is about a girl going back & forth in a relationship because she doesn't know what she is looking for. In the video, the girl is a bit more psycho to get the point across. He keeps trying to move on with other girls, meanwhile she thinks of it as cheating and angrily catches him on these dates. Its should be a whirlwind of excitement to watch. You will be able to watch it sometime this month (August). You can follow Sami on twitter Here.

Designing News

I am currently extreemly excited for ALEGRIA 4 Designer Auditions on September 18th.

After graduating in fashion design, I really want to move forward as a designer. Slowly, but surely, I have been sketching and sewing new ideas. Acting and Modeling has still been keeping me very busy, but the two are quite intertwined. I did a fashion video in July for designers Varela+Brooks and got some important designer questions answered by Isabel Varela. Here are behind the scene pictures (quality is better if you open them):
The plot for it is very creative and mystical. I play a girl who dies and enters a new world filled with familiar items like the thing that brought me there...an orchid. You should be able to check out the video by the end of this month (August 2011). The director and editor where very fun and professional and there should be some amazing effects!

IZAVEL

Another great designer I modeled for was Isabel Varela. Her line is called Izavel. Not only was her clothing killer, but we got along very well and she wants me to be her design assistant when she moves back from Dallas. We also decided that we were going to do a line together for Spring 2011. So hopefull in a few months I will be telling you about a show I am having at the Republic and I will need models so keep your ears open. Here are some pictures from that fashion show:

LA is the New LA

After coming back from Denver I realized that New Orleans and surrounding areas are also heavily involved in the film and fashion industry right now. Since getting back to New Orleans I have multiple jobs and each job always leads to a future one. The first was for Jolie & Elizabeth. It is comprised of two young New Orleans fashion designers, Jolie Bensen and Sarah Elizabeth Dewey. Their mission:

"Staying true to timeless southern style, the dresses of
Jolie and Elizabeth surpass forced trends that overlook
the purpose of a dress: to adorn or decorate; to render
pleasing or attractive. Trends come and go, buta true
Southern girl knows good style and good attitude go
hand in hand. And there's nothing more charmingly
irresistible than that."

She needed two models for Cirque Magazine. I was so excited to see a designer doing her thing in New Orleans. She also stated that she plans on writing a self help-ish book forfashion design who need help rising to the top after coming out of school. She is defiantly a designer to keep your eye on. Here are some of the pictures from the shoot.

Artist Audrey Kawasaki to show at Hajimari

I thought these pieces would spice up any one's day.
I freaking love her cat! Why is it that cats always want
to join you when your crafting? Her illustrations are absolutely miraculous and
I love how cute and whimsical her workplace is. I can't even imagine cutting wood with such detail.

Whimsy's Wardrobes goes to Denver, CO

Day 40
(July 16th)
I was going to go hiking with Luke, Marshal, Kevin, Sarah, and Meghan but I reme
mbered the 5 Degrees fashion show is today...

I have to go at 4:00pm to get my hair and makeup done at Scarlet Salon Downtown. Then we have run threw at 7:30pm that is supposedly not the ordinary walk. She wants us wearing cocktail dresses before show at 11:00pm. So right now I am waiting for it to be 3:30pm. I don't really have to get ready I guess because they are doing my makeup and hair. Should be pretty fun. I think some of the girls from the last show are in it. We have been texting about it today.

THIS IS THE FIRST BLOG I HAVE ACTUALLY WRITTEN ON THE DAY IT HAPPENED I skipped a few to get here...

Still interested?

I ended up leaving at 3:40 to pick up fake eye lashes. They wanted me to bring even though I think they make me look like a baby doll (the ones with the wobbly eyes).

Not a good look for anyone. Then I tried to find this place from the map quest directions I wrote on a piece of paper. Turns out number ordered streets aren't always in order. Thirty minutes after 4:00, I get to Scarlet Salon for hair and makeup. I was interupted while apologizing on my tardiness with the lady at the front desk telling me it was OK that I was late because I was the only one that showed up! Very surprising (not the first time I hear of models being unprofessional). Anyway they sat me down with the most flamboyant black guy you will ever meet. He kept joking every time he dropped something that his "Butt plug had fallen out." I wasn't very amused especially with the fact that he was cracking jokes with everyone t

he whole time he did my hair. I tried to start a re

gular conv

ersation with him, but he wasn't feeling it. When he finished my hair the front was half wavy and lop sided. I brought it up to him and he got made at me for touching it and slapped my wrist. He then told me each bump wave and mess told a "story." hmmmmm. I was pretty impressed by the back though and after I left I fixed the top front in my car.

I told Mirana (a girl I met at another fashion show) to come to the Salon, considering there were less models there than planned. The makeup artist didn't show up either so we all had to do our own hair and makeup (You can tell in some of the following photos). I was so hungry because I hadn't had a chance to eat dinner so I went next door to a restaurant that ended up being a Ice Cream parlor and bought two bananas because I felt more satisfied using my debit card on 1.50 rather than .75 cents. I gave the other banana to another model, Barbera, and she was so thankful. We were all pretty starving. Miranda ate a Large chocolate ice cream, very modelesque. I left before them because I am very worried about being late to these functions, they are still jobs no matter how fun and friendly they are. I ended up getting lost of course, but managed to get there right on time. We stood around the club, 5 Degrees, for
a while becau
se the stage was running late. It was a very nice club with a fountain in the courtyard. Amanda told us we could head down to Lavish to get the photo shoot done by 10:30 (it was 9:30). An hour for 12 girls sounds like enough time, but it is kinda cutting it close. When we go there the photographer was still setting up his gear so I ordered a Caesar salad and was pissed to find out it was Iceberg Lettuce, which has barley any nutritional Value. The photo shoots BEGIN...
(These are some of my favorites of the other models)

And the best of the group pictures:

Day 32-33
(July 8th and 9th)
Well like I said, Luke sprained his ankle skating so today (July 8th) we just sat around on the couch. I had to go to work to pick up our checks and tell them about his ankle. We were surprised at how much our checks ended up being. Luke watched The Rachel Ray show for the first time. He was so interested in it! He even went on her website after and picked a dish that we were going to cook together.
1 pound macaroni
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
3/4 pound chorizo
1 can diced fire roasted tomatoes
1 small onion
2 chipolte in adobo and their juices
1 tablespoon ground chipotle chili
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3cups whole milk
1 cup chicken stock
3 cups shredded smoked Cheddar
It was defiantly interesting. His leg was hurting so he basically just told me what to do. I got a bit overwhelmed because he had me doing a lot at once.

I don't have any pictures of the end product though because I was actually very upset with it. Luke wanted to put 2 cans of the chipolte and said it wouldn't be to spicy (I hate spicy). I told him one would do the trick and he got up and hopped over to the sauce I was making and threw the other can it. It was SO spicy. Not to mention instead of using flour, Luke accidental used confectionet sugar.

We also made broccoli according to Rachael Ray's Recipe that turned out pretty nice.
I found out that I got hired as the actress for a Safety Video for online students. Online students get sent lab work through the mail with a video would that tells them how to do it the safe way. We drove to Aurora to meet the people filming it on the 9th. I was getting worried when noticing the neighborhood wasn't very safe feeling, kind of run down. When we knocked on the door of the studio, I was very surprised to see 3 attractive young guys with 3 golden retrievers. The studio even had a green room. They said I looked a little young, but could make me look older with hair and makeup.

Day 31
(July 7th)
Skate Park:
Luke and I went downtown in Denver today. Our first (and last) stop was the skate park.
As soon as I was getting out of the car, I ran into my friend Brian Starnes. How crazy is that? He is from Atlanta and the last time I saw him was for a skate comp. in Florida. I took some fun pictures of him and his friends.
Luke pulled off some sweet tricks, but when he got to the 50-50 grind he fell on it sideways allowing the ledge to slam into his side. Ouch! He attempted it again and his foot slipped off and he hopped all over the place to find steady ground eventually sending his foot under and hearing a loud crack. He was squishing up his face in pain and hopping around saying, "Give me a minute and I'll be fine!" I didn't believe him. I carried his skate board to the car and told him to wait while I got the car. Sure enough he was out for about 4 days.
It is so great the city built such a large skate park for skaters, skateboarders and even BMX bikers. I found it easier to get good pictures of skaters and BMX riders.

Whimsy goes to Denver, CO

Day 30

(July 6th)

What an interesting day today! I competed in a calender competition for a club called Suite Two Hundred in downtown Denver. I was the first model there, I got there a bit early on purpose in order to get hair and makeup done early. The photographer from Red Rocks, David, had told me that one of his other models would also be there, Jennica. A blond walked in about my height and I asked her, "Are you Jennica?" To my surprise it was. She was very easy to get along with and she seems to be pretty successful with her modeling career. It makes me happy to see girls with my height (5'3 1/2) doing well in this industry-- Its about time. Tall is great and all, but us short girls have a way with strutting our stuff!

More and more girls began to show up and you could feel the competition rising. There was a complete line down the different types of girls there....SEXY (or a bit acrylic) and GORGEOUS (naturally). All the girls I got along with were in the natural beauty category and we all agreed that we didn't feel that we should have to be "SEXY" to win. Even though we all knew that was what was going to win.

The first part of competition was to pose in bathing suits for the photographer the way he wanted us in order for him to see how well we do with directions. Then you could do whatever you want. Some of these girls were pretty much naked in there string neon bikinis. They all wore heals and poked their butt to the camera, you get the picture. My friends and I were taken with what women will do to win money and we were dwelling getting in front of the camera after these girls. I decided to wear a cream short sleeve crochet shrug over an aqua tubed bathing suit. I topped it off with the string from my bathing suit around my head...very hippie like. I was the only one to not use heels, I just went on my tippy toes. Who wears heels with a bathing suit? Oh, wait, that's right...Strippers!

The photographer told me to show a shoulder and pose with a hand on the hip. This went on a few more times till it was then my turn to be creative. I felt confident with my modest, but fierce character I gave each pose. I am told my style in front of the camera is high fashion. We then had to line up for the runway show with our cocktail dresses. I wore a red-orange asymmetrical dress. I was surprised when I saw girls wearing tight knit T-shirt dresses with their butts almost falling out. As I said before...very thick line between the "Acrylics" and "Naturals" at this event.

I was second to go on stage, the girl in front and behind me were all girls I got along with very well. I especially got along well with the girl in front of me. Her name was so pretty, Phaedra, and she was so elegant. We pumped each other up a bit before. Every girl did their walk while an announcer stated something interesting about each girl from a form we all filled out.
Here's how mine went:
What food best describes you?
Guacamole because its healthy and green.
What food are you craving now?
Guacamole because you just had me talking about it earlier.
Good girl or Bad girl?
Good girl.
East coast or West coast?
South Coast.
What actress is most like you and why?
Rachel McAdams because she is a free spirit and modest.
What male actor do you have a crush on?
I left this part black because I couldn't think of one.
There were more questions than that, but that's all I can remember. You get the picture. They said I was from New Orleans and I got a huge applause. After the cocktail dresses we put our bathing suits back on (I still wore it with the shrug and headband). Some of the girls were real provocative in front of the judges. Others walked it like it was a real fashion show (me included). At the end they had us all on stage and to all my friends surprise the most provocative girl won. The runner up wasn't much better.
I walked Phaedra to her car (they made her leave because she was under 21) and I went back to the club and hung out with some of the models I made friends with. I don't have any pictures to show you yet, they are taking a long time to edit them (Its been more than a week).
However, I will illustrate this story for you eventually.

Whimsy goes to Denver, CO

Day 29
(July 5th)
Today I journeyed to the Botanic Gardens with Luke, Marshal, Kevin, Jess, and their (Marshall, Kev and Jess's) parents. As you can see it was perfect weather for viewing these gorgeous plants, not to mention for photographing them. Their dad was very knowledgeable about all plants that we saw. They are very much into the outdoors in their family. Luke and I went camping once with Marshal and he astonished us all with his knowledge of everything from cooking outdoors to types of butterflies. I plan on telling you which flower is which. Unfortunatly for you guys I was slacking in my journalism and didn't write down any of the names. If you know any feel free to let me know....
